Why Black Women don’t start makeup brands.

I have been blogging and vlogging for a while. And the same questions keeps coming up.Why isnt there enough makeup brands ,that cater for women of colour especially black women? Women of African and Asian descent skin tone vary in skin tones but its like mission to get makeup foundation that fits are vary skin tones in the Uk especially if your dark skin.

Here’s Youtuber Mithu she a British Srilankan Tamil her skin tone is the same as many African women.Black women come from all over the world and there beauty needs to be celebrate and catered for.

sri

I feel like we black women are always moaning about the lack of makeup brands that catered for us .But how many of us are willing to start are own makeup brand. We know there  a problem but we seem to be waiting on white mainstream beauty companies to fix it.

I notice a while back British Ghanaian Youtuber Chanel started a makeup line called Amby Rose but I was disappointed when she just launch it with fake lashes and makeup brushes first. It wasn’t addressing the problem of lack of suitable shades for dark skin women like us. I was expected more from her as a makeup artist by profession.

Its seem like some of us black folk love to complain ,as long we never get too the doing part. It’s like some in the black community always say its white folk  fault and that they need to change so we can be more comfortable.

But we are very talented people ,why if we are trained makeup artists ,hairdressers etc. Haven’t we started are own beauty brands instead of buying them from white beauty companies that dont care about us.

Its like we don’t believe in ourselves or want to invest in the time and effort it takes to launch our own makeup brands celebrating are own kind of beauty.

When are we collectively going to put ourselves first

We also seems to have  a distribution problem .As many black beauty shop are owned by fair skin Asian who don’t stock many makeup brand for dark skin women of colour .And many black women and men don’t want to own a beauty shop catering to there own community,We let others do it for us .

If you find black makeup online ,there no testers so you have to buy it and waste money if its not the right colour. People things need to change .Let me know if you as a black women ever thought about starting a makeup line ?

Please leave you thoughts in the comment section.

Maybelline’s Fit Me! Foundations

maybelline-foundation.jpg

I am just a brown skin girl living in a vanilla world and I hear constantly how colour don’t matter but I still can’t walk into any high street shop or department store in England and get the right shade of foundation for my skin tone. I have to order online or go to a specfic shop to buy foundation.

So when I saw Maybelline new advert advertising the fit me foundation I was surprise as it said it now has 40 shades .I thought bloody hell that a lot. As I looked closer to the ad ,I notice it was only for normal to oily skin.

I thought that counts me out as I have dry skin. Its seem there a myth that black skin is oily .My skin is very dry .I get annoyed when people tell me its weird for a black women not to have oily skin. I just tell them ,no its not as I don’t have oily skin.

I looked at the US advert and notice there was only one black women in the advert even though it said it has 40 shades. And the Asian and European women all seem to be closer to the same shade. Its seem white capitalism beauty company Maybelline just don’t get African skin stone can range from the white cream to darkest brown .Its funny how the ad was saying foundation for all skin tones and contrdict it self with only light skin tone show and one token black women in shade 360 is  meant to represent all black women

IMG_20170824_213842.jpg.

The ad is a USA ad and the same ad in Uk only 19 shades are available in the uk.This is very unfair.I will have to complain to Maybelline about this .

I am getting really fed up of white dominated beauty companies and there  false advertisement,They getaway with it everyday and people just don’t see the racism behind it.Its time Black people start there own beauty companies and stop letting white beauty  companies get away with false advertising and not providing enough shades for the variety of brown skin women of African descent .

False advertisement seem to  be the name of the games in the white beauty world.

No justice No Peace Rashan Charles

Dear Brother I dont know what to say ,my heart is heavy. Its like the same shit different century. We shades of brown are not judge with humanity but by racist white supremacy standards .You were choked out like an animal and you could have been eating a sweet or food. But in the newspapers and the twitter sphere no one mention that .You were judge purely on your skin tone.
I am sorry for your family pain ,sorry for the kids you left behind. May your death not be in vain.May all the martyrs that have been killed by police brutality whether black ,yellow and white not dead in vain.
Here is the list of people killed by UK injustice system ,police brutality or in police custody
White people
Ian Tomlinson, Jordon Begley, Henry Foley, Richard O’Brien, Clement Blair Peach and Roger Sylveste
Black people
Sarah Reed, Mark Duggan, Cherry Groce, Joy Gardner, Sean Rigg, Oluwashijibomi Lapite, and Christopher Alder

Solutions people we must demand are rights ,that its not a crime to be of african descent ,its not a crime to be working class white person.

No justice No peace.

Living your passion

I started a new a YouTube channel called Bettyscloset a few months ago just to share my passions for clothes, hair and beauty but due to financial problems and health problems I haven’t been able to upload many videos. But I have decided to challenge myself and do the 30 day Vlog challenge. I have been inspire by other YouTubers like Annie Drea & Shameless Maya to do more Vlogs. And to be Shameless like Maya says.I am my worse critic. I don’t have many family in the Uk just my sister and mum. We ain’t on good terms.I think I internalize all the negative things my family and people said about me. And started to feel worthless.I thought I was what people told me I was.But I am not.

Connecting with other people via YouTube and blogging has made me realise my family aint everything .If they dont want to chill with me .It don’t matter .I am worth something. And I will have my own family one day.

And there’s other family members in the USA and Africa who want to get to know me.I have learnt that there are people who love me and like watching my video’s and reading my blog. And I have to remember that when I am feeling low.

I have also learnt ,I just need to be me and not try and be a perfectionist or wait until I have the perfect dream Vlogging camera Canon M10 .I just need to work with what I have. Thanks Shameless Maya for teaching me that.

I am also learning how to Vlog and edit videos on VSDC editor .And to film at different camera angles and how to use different filming equipment .I find Shameless Maya Tech Talk videos a great guide for any YouTuber that’s looking to up there game. And produce excellent YouTube video’s.Its so inspiring to see a black women who knows how to edit well. The tech industry is dominate by man unfortunately.

Its a lot of fun Vlogging but hard work .But you have to follow your passion in life.Whats life with out passion?

Tell me whats your passion? Are you a YouTuber too or a blogger ? Comment below Please check my videos below and share on social media  & please  comment .Kiss kiss dont forget to live your passion.

Megabus Manchester to London

A couple of months ago I travel to London via the Megabus to go and get my Nigerian passport. And its was cheap as peanuts I thought I would do a quick review of Megabus for the people who hope to use this bus company. In total it cost me £7.00 to travel to London on a return ticket .I got brought this coach ticket as I couldn’t afford the train fare .It’s double in the last year to go London by train,so Megabus seem like a great option. For people on a teeny weeny budget like me.

I can say it was an alright ride the bus, the seats we comfortable but not enough legroom if your tall like me ( 174cm) .The toilet was teeny weeny too. You cant afford to be fat on Megabus as you will get stuck on the toilet. As the cubicle is so small and its a very tight squeeze .The Wifi wasn’t get but it did the job.

The bus arrive on time at 3.15 am but the only problem was the bus arrived London 1.30 hours late .Due to the another bus driver arriving late in Milton Keynes, which is where the bus drivers change over. And another Megabus just outside London , had a fire and break down. And our driver had to take hes passenger on to our bus. Which made us even later.I realise now after all that, why the Megabus is so cheap. There’s a 50 percent chance it wont arrive on time. But really what could I have done as its was only £7.00 on a return ticket to London from Manchester.

megabus.jpg

Some of the passengers got upset with the driver for being late arrive to London and they we told they would be kicked off the bus for complaining too much. There were two Nigerians complaining there were quite aggressive. Its the Nigerian way to be very expressive when you speak.I just laugh as you should know better at this price then expect the coach to be on time .Its not Ryanair who are great at being on time.I was just happy are coach didn’t catch fire like the other coach.

This Megabus coach its really for the budget traveler who has a lot of time too kill.I would not recommend it if you need to get there on time.Try National Express for that.

One last thing, there was a screaming baby on the way back that nearly gave me a headache,l think the baby was in pain .Every time I tried to sleep the baby kept crying and let us now, that if he couldn’t sleep no one was going too sleep lol. But apart from that it was a nice trip. Would I use there service again .Yeah sure but only because l am on a small budget and cant afford the train. Happy Travelling ..Please comment ,sub and share on social media.

Nikon D5100 DSLR camera review

I have decided to review my Nikon D5100 DSLR camera.Which I have had since 2014 .I have only started using it in the last year as I couldn’t work out how to get live view on it. I managed to work it out and how to put it on live view and I’ve started filming with it. I was grey dark patchy colour on the normal setting so I had to switch the setting to vivid ,so the camera would pick up the colour of my skin properly.I would recommend that setting for Dark skin people on this camera. I also fiddled about with the contrast and Saturation to improve the video. Its a lot better.

But I still can’t say the Nikon D5100 camera films dark skin well,in low light setting as far as I can see.The video below was film at night in my kitchen, when all the kitchen lights were on the normal standard setting. Its doesnt seem to pick up dark skin well and isnt focusing very well on my dark skin.

Even though on heartifb.com a independent blogger website, says this camera cope well in low light conditions.

http://heartifb.com/2013/03/26/5-great-digital-cameras-fashion-bloggers/

They should have said for folks with light skin e.g Caucasian skin. If you are of the chocolate variety like me, you will notice you will appear like a bit of a bloop of darkness on the video.Shadows appear on your skin, like you have complexion problems, that you don’t have.Even if you film with the lights on. Banging my head against a brick wall.

I had to put a spot light on my face just to film my next YouTube Vlog reviewing DuduOsun Black Soap and I ‘m still not happy. The video just not sharp enough.

I only have one lens but I will just have to keep playing with camera settings to see if I can improve the sharpness of the video. I personally think Nikon DSLR cameras are not very good for taking pictures or filming video’s of dark skin people. I had the same problem with taking a photo of myself.I looked washed out and grey.Picture below when I hadn’t used vivid setting on the camera.

_DSC0024

Vivid setting on this camera is essential for dark skin folk. The setting since to be tailor to light skin people.

Most Dark skin people since to film with Canon 600D .Some reviews online have mention that Nikon colour skin tones aren’t as realistic like Canon and I ‘m thinking they might be right. Anyway the struggle continues.I like the camera but I won’t buy another Nikon DSLR. Next one will be Canon.

There quite a few articles discussing the bias towards light skin online here a link to one.

Manchester Bombing

Gosh my hometown of Manchester has been bombed again. Last time it was bombed in 1996 by the IRA.Its been really sad for the victims of this bombing.Because its was kids that got hurt time this time around. A young Manchester lad Salman Abedi decide to be a suicide bomber and blown himself and others up. At Ariana Grande Concert. She’s a former Disney star.

Ariana-Grande

My heart fell when it happened .Growing up in Moss Side and the surrounding area.I know it isn’t the land of opportunity .Its full of  broken dreams, poverty and people of former British colonies as well as poor white Britons. All trying to get along and trying to lift themselves out of poverty.

Its been strange for me ,as I use to work in that MEN arena that was bombed but that was many moons ago. I have so many emotions because the Salman Abedi the bomber went to school in Moss side the area I grew up in and he lived on the same street as my friend. So I know many places which this guy knew. Its strange to see the area I grew up in the spotlight again all for the wrong reasons.

Salman Abedi family were arrested by armed police after the bombing .I feel for them ,as people forget that you don’t always now what you family are up to. I ain’t close to my sisters or brother and if they did something I wouldn’t have a clue. Its seem like hes family will be paying for hes sins.

I think its disgusting how the press have named the shop where Salman cousins have barber shop and the street where Salman Adedi lived.Being a barber isnt a crime and if hes cousins have been found to not been involved .They should be able to get on with there lives ,without the press putting them on blast for crimes they haven’t committed. The press in this country seem to think British people of colour lives ain’t worth shit. Here’s an interesting article on Salman cousins and their thoughts on the bombing and their cousin.

http://www.itv.com/news/2017-06-01/salman-abedis-shocked-cousins-cant-understand-how-bubbly-lad-became-manchester-bomber/

There’s a lot of people of colour in the area of Moss side , Fallowfield , Rusholme and it wont surprise me if the Far Right come and visit them area.To harassing people of colour. The Far Right have in the past visited the area’s to make trouble. The people just dont need this attention.

Many experts are blaming British foreign policy & M16 & M15 for the increase in attacks in Britain & Europe. Jeremy Corbyn took the brave step of speaking about this in a speech. The link is below.

M16 & M15 have been allowing British Duel citizens to go and fight wars and overthrow foreign governments in Syria ,Libya  and Afghanistan if it helps defend British Imperial interest. British government had placed Libyan nationals on control order , taken there passports. Then minute M16 /M15  got wind there was a Libya uprising ,they quickly give the passports back to the Libyan /British  nationals living in Manchester ,UK .And allow them to go and over throw Gaddafi government. While preaching their against terrorism.

Here’s an article about M16/ M15 and British Government meddling

http://www.middleeasteye.net/news/sorted-mi5-how-uk-government-sent-british-libyans-fight-gaddafi-1219906488

When the blow back comes like the Manchester bombing ,British government and M15/M16 claim they had nothing to do with it. Here a video of a Moss Side lad called Mohammed who flew out to Libya to play real war games ,kill people ,fight ISIS Daseh while being high on drugs.

This type of Neo colonial meddling by British and western government is what is upsetting many people of colour in Africa ,Middle east and beyond. And funding terrorism in those places.

Many former colonial powers, have no respect for they former colonies and are constant meddling in there affairs. Over throwing governments, selling weapons to totalitarian regimes like Saudi Arabia and not caring how many innocent people are killed in those countries. As long as the economies of the west are doing well. The human rights and the right to self determination is ignore at every turn for those people. As long as your not western country. As long as the bombing and war isn’t on western soil .Its alright

Britain was involved in bombing of Libya.Britain sent special troops to Libya as well has Tomahawk missiles to knock out Libya air defence. But British media and government ,want British public to believe that Libyans aren’t angry at the devastation cause through a war that Britain help create. The war in Libya seems to have no end.

British people should ask how would you feel if this war was being play out on Britain soil not foreign soil. All lives should matter not just western ones. One day the war mongering government of the west will get that. Until then its business as usually and the arm industry in the uk ,is going to keep selling weapons to boost the economy.
